Will Pacquiao Finally Settle For A Showdown with McGregor?
From the list of boxers the Filipino boxing champ Pacquiao could possibly face inside the ring in this pandemic-ravaged 2020, it appears that a fight with McGregor would likely come to fruition. If the fight between them can be secured and sealed, it will most likely take place later this year, or it can also be postponed until early 2021.
It was Pacquiao’s special assistant who somehow gave us a hint as to who Pacquiao might face next in the ring, although it’s all just a suggestion of sorts and nothing is finalized yet. Jaykay Joson, when interviewed by the Manila Standard, has told about what Pacquiao’s career should be like right now. He revealed that an informal poll was being conducted and as a result, it was found that 9 out of 10 Filipinos would like to see a showdown between Pacquiao and McGregor. “I’ve spoken to nine out of 10 Filipinos and they really like UFC star Conor McGregor as the senator’s last opponent before he leaves professional boxing for good,” he said.
Pacquiao is the fighting senator from the Philippines, and with that said, he has many things that can divide his priorities right now and he will only decide once we are done with the coronavirus pandemic. “I think we will know Senator Pacquiao’s plans in boxing as soon as the COVID-19 crisis is over. For the senator, this is not the time for a boxing match. It really depends on the senator when he will retire from boxing. But many Filipinos want our senator to face McGregor because it will be a great fight,” Joson concluded.
A showdown with McGregor may also be the most logical route for Pacquiao to venture out at this point in his boxing career. He’s on the safe side with that, and this fight may generate more pay-per-view sales than with anyone he can face on his list of prospective foes. Considering that he is now 41 years old, and fighting a much younger and hungrier fighter can pose a great risk to his health and life, the fight with McGregor is less risky with more monetary gains.
